This is a fascinating thread. What a cool bike. It’s great that it was saved from the scrapper. Is there much of a bike industry left in France? I.e. independent frame builders etc?

I don’t have a Dean but I’d happily swap a kidney for that 😅

I have a 90mm high rise Tioga T-Bone stem, 1 1/8 inch diameter. Can share a photo if interested. You can also use a riser handle bar for an even more upright riding position.

Reading this thread is bitter sweet. It’s amazing how much craftsmanship and innovation there was in the British bicycle industry, the size of the industry and the huge range of builders. And now it’s pretty much all gone 🙁

Pioneers have so much character. I bet that climbs like a mountain goat!

If only the black was a vinyl wrap and you could remove to reveal…

Enjoying this thread. Very cool bike! The paint schemes on these 80’s Specialized are great. Nice to see some Suntour. I find the naming conventions interesting. XCD 4050, XC 9000 etc. doesn’t roll off the tongue like DX and XT, but it’s top quality gear!
