    The Unofficial Official Photography Thread...

Seem to recall that the shutter is electronic on those - is it battery related?

    Today's Ride

Felt the need for some new vistas, and a longer ride so headed north from Malton to the Moors with a Roman theme in mind. Malton was a Roman garrison town, and despite having passed through a million times, I’d never twigged it had a fort. (Grass with perimeter ditches now, but a nice start.)...

"Isn't modern bicycle technology absolutely wonderful?"😍

To bring together a few points: The route I’m riding (Dalby Red) is long, (over 20 miles) and steep (600m in old money). This is sustained riding, not a lap round the park. So please be sure you can do that (now, not wayback) in order to be relevant. The course is made of mostly single-track...

"Isn't modern bicycle technology absolutely wonderful?"😍

Just making a list of wanted requirements while I remember: Lightness and 26/ 27 wheels a must. High volume tyres a must - suspect a much bigger difference than a few mm on suspension travel. Brakes - you adapt to what you have. Incidentally, flat pedals with spikes were surprisingly grippy...

I forgot to mention the brakes: disc, very on / off compared to cantis, but they work very well and you get used to feathering them within about 3minutes.

"Isn't modern bicycle technology absolutely wonderful?"😍

When I grow up, I’m going to avoid posting on modern vs old threads …… but - Went with my teenage boys to Dalby Forest and hired what I beleive are referred-to as “hard-tail” mountain bikes (29er/27.5er, 140mm front, alloy frame, c. 14kg) We did the 22mile , fairly technical red run. Notes...

You seem to have a spoke lacing device that isn’t your knees!? (Splitter! 😉)

1981 Nishiki Master - Randonneur build

Grey cotton tape with shellac could work. Maxy cranks also cool and a useful 110 BCD? Is that a Superbe rear mech? Classy. An earlier cyclone would also slap.

Suggestions for a lightweight (folding) 26" x 1.5ish slick tyre?

Yes, there was a batch on eBay recently that I missed; bikeinn have them: postage is 12 but they’re only 11.50, so 2 to your door for 35.

Suggestions for a lightweight (folding) 26" x 1.5ish slick tyre?

Was looking at this too: Pasela Protite seems best of the current crop - sub 500, amber wall and if the 700cs I had are anything to go by, roll nicely. I’m also tempted by Michelin Country rock, which aren’t very light but are very cheap!

Clockwork top tube dent advice needed!

Frame blocks and filler would be a good learning experience, but I’d vote for not worrying about it: powdercoat is a bit thicker than paint so will fill it a bit, and unless your daughter is determined to have a pristine bike, a small characterful ding will be part of the story. (Or could be...
