would that be becouse they are pointed and sharp?

i stripped and cleaned, oiled and reassembled the rear mech a few weeks ago, however im not too sure haw to reconise if in poor condition? the wheels where pointed and sharp without any ply and spun freely, so in my amature opintion, i deemed them ok?

Ahh, so theirs a highest chainring tooth, good grief ive got some learning to do about chainrings and derailer's, your wealth of knowledge is so valued, and iam glad you are prepared to share it.:)

Thank you for your reply. I pheraps should have included a little more detail. This bike has been unused for the past 15 yrs, and is having a program of refirbishment, its had a new chain, back cassette, tyres, Rearderailer cable and works much better now, but still some adjustment required...
