Get the shifters into an ultrasonic tank. I did this just a few weeks ago with a 105 3x10 set and they went from inoperable to snick-snick perfect.

I collected a 60s BSA in poor condition this week. I've had half an eye out for a Raleigh tourer of the period, but this caught my eye due to the relative rarity of BSA, despite being more-or-less a Raleigh, and the colour scheme which is unusual compared to the conservative dark blues & greens...

I've not read your thread in detail yet, but some of the bike at least looks the same as this BSA Sports that I have just picked up. V similar looking chain case anyway. I'll be looking to do a similar preservation job on it and might be asking you for some close-up pics, not least of the chain...

Well I didn't mention Pantani, the bike in question is supposedly from Mario Traversoni. I've known this bike since about 2001 and my opinion is that nobody would fake a bike from a little-known and not-especially-successful (sorry Mario!) sprinter, only a couple of years after the team's glory...

I do confess to having gold plated my own DA7200 cassette for my Koga Miyata FullPro-S. "Some kind" of gold finish was original and the only way I could find to replicate it was gold plating. I don't expect it to last on the teeth, but hopefully the rest of the sprocket finish will survive.

I saw the gold set and did laugh. Mind you, it's much better than the corroded set on Ebay that some Italian bloke wants €200 for.

Indeed you can still buy the straight precisia fork, they are €400 so no thanks! If I haven't come across a fork by the time I paint it, then it will have to go on the wall until I do find one. Which would be a shame.

Look at this beauty I came across the other day. A terrible paint job, and forks missing, but good chrome and no dents, cracks or corrosion. It will have to go into storage until I can get round to working on it, but meantime I will seek out a chrome Precisia fork.

Love it. I wouldn't spray it, just touch in the paint where it's missing and leave it looking semi-obvious. It's all patina. Those wheels are lovely especially with 18/24 spokes. I've got Shamals on my Pinarello but I do worry about the 16-spoke rear wheel. Just as well I don't have much power...

Been playing around with rear cassettes. The bike came with a hotch-potch of so-called "super-shift" cogs, with the hooked teeth and some plain reversible uniglide cogs. Colour? Supposedly gold finish but really a faded yellow chromate on some of them. Teeth? 13-23 vs the catalog 13-25. Not very...

In the last couple of months I've rebuilt the wheels. All were astonishingly good condition but I stripped it all so I could clean up the rims. The original finish is a matt clear anodize which is terrible - it soaks up dirt and is hard to clean. So I cleaned up the anodizing without removing...
