White grease spray.... somebody recommend i should now lube the shifters (after all that WD40 / GT85
But after a quick Google, some seem to say white grease can harden and clog up things like shifters.
What to do for the best?
Had another go. Inside was /is clean as a whistle.
This time I lifted the whole mechanism out of the plastic and removed the cable.
Played around a little and hey presto everything is clicking and pulling cables like it should.
Fixed!
Made my day. Thank all.
...now, what was somebody...
Thanks but no luck.
Took the cover off and had a good look.
I think the spring is too weak to push the paw down onto the gears. If I push it down with a screw driver it engages the gears and clicks.
Without pushing it down it just passed over the gears
Had a good go with WD40 but it's not done anything. Removed the screw and looked inside, there isn't any build up of gunk.
Strange, it's like there is just no cable in there. No resistance at all.
The bike looks like it's never been used (no wear on blocks or rims. I wonder if the shifter failed and they never fixed it and thus rode it?
Will try wd.
I suspect paws because I pulled tension on the cable and that didn't do anything while I attempted to change through the gears
