That's interesting, how do you determine that it is necessary to part out?

    Thought exercise....How much it worth

Hi All, I have t got a specific bike or anything but I have been wondering something. Is it always better to part something out or keep together? I know the exceptions will be super collectable high stuff like a completeland original Bob Jackson and the likes. But what about the middle...

Your right, for years I was blind to quality steel built frames. I was of the stubborn mindset that steel is steel, and therefore heavy regardless of how fancy it is. Boy was I wrong!

    Raleigh Corsa

My rear end definitely thanks me for it on that slightly too hard seat (though I hope that will soften up a little over time or I stop feeling feelings!)

    Raleigh Corsa

I have been riding single speed for about a year and a half (with an old Raleigh winner has pipe special), and I have to say I preferred 32c. More comfort, and you can lean the bike over to a heroic angle, at least if feels that way. But I also found it to be a little faster, though...

This are 28c I had 32c on there before which cleared the front with brake, but the rears where too close to the chain stays, so went down to 28c. Loads of clearance, I think you'll be able to get with a set of 30c

Right, so bit of an update. I had some time to dismantle, clean and reassemble the bike. I decided to go single speed but kept all the kit so I can put it bake to standard at anytime. The paint though...whoa really came up nice.

Ohhhhh I really like this.... Give me

    Raleigh Corsa

Oh really! Damn. Here's a question, should I clean and reuse this bottom bracket (assuming the parts are in good nick), or do I go for a newer style sealed bearing affair? Maintenance aside, which has better performance? For context, I have built up a winner into a single speed, turns out...

    Raleigh Corsa

So I finally got around to stripping down the frame. The only things left to take of are the forks and bottom bracket. I figured let's weight the thing. I'm getting 4.5kg as the frame stands now, on a 59cm frame. Is this good, bad, normal for this type of frame (Reynolds 531) ?

    Raleigh Corsa

To be fair I am leaning this way... Though it would be nice to have an original bike. I guess once I strip the frame down and cleaned everything I'll have a better idea of the frames true condition, then I can decide how to proceed.

So according to a catalogue I've seen online I have exage A450 (sport?) levers with quick release. If the button is for opening the brake caliper wider that is super awesome, gonna try it out tomorrow. Also where do I go to find those parts diagrams?

    Raleigh Corsa

Lol, saddle leprosy is definitely an apt description! I had a proper look at the brake levers and took the crazy amount of electric tape it was wrapped in off and they look to be the originals. But no hoods. However, there is a button on them, and I had a play, but for the life of me I can't...

Thanks Mohawk, White into maroon sounds cool, I haven't seen that colour way before, I'll keep an eye out. In your last post you mentioned your friends bike had something called a "Sante", what are that? I'm guessing it's a seat.

Thanks Buddy, this makes me feel sooo much better about the bike. Looks like it'll be worth putting in the extra elbow grease on this project

Lol, trust me, from what I've learnt I am sooo happy they're not tubular!

    Raleigh Corsa

Ohhhh I r dumb! So basically I have really skinny normal rims, I can deal with these. Not sure what a lost crown fork is so going to have a google-ing sesh! I wonder why have 501 at all if the cost is negligible and (as I understand it) 531 is better? Or am I getting that wrong and it's more...

    Raleigh Corsa

Thanks bikeworkshop, That catalogue has shines a fair amount of light on the bike. The main tubes of the frame are 532, guessing the rear triangle is "gas pipe" (or possibly Raleigh 18-23). Forks seam (see what I did there?) like they are gas pipe steel as well. With this being a mid-range...

    Raleigh Corsa

Hi All, I've just picked up a Raleigh Corsa it has exage sport front mech and rear derailleur, looks like exage hubs, basically exage everything. sakae stem. I don't know much about it other than it's 531 Reynolds butted, I don't know if it is main tubes or everything. Also I thing the rims...
