    Today's Ride

That’s breaking the rules here as I am posting yesterday’s ride today! On the way back home from work took a small detour in the forest. Overall 25 kms one way only.

I bought this Marin in 1997

Welcome @Freeman ! Looks ridden to the core this one and so it must be well blended with you. No bike can trully replace the first one...Hopefully, I will be able to ride in such an aggressive position once I get to my 60s too! :)

FAT Chance Yo Eddy frame , grello

I guess you have to roll the dice with early Yos when it comes to their seatube / BB issues but as you said not at this price. I was lucky with mine and still had to do some cleaning to find out the state it was. You can ask for a picture from the seller from that area. You get a pretty good...

    Today's Ride

I went for my standard late afternoon ride the but ended up getting a flat. Pump I had was not working but a nice gentleman ended up helping by lending me his.

    Well. That was easy.

    Well. That was easy.

Nice find Charlie! I have an M2 waiting to be built too. I think the technology that went into them to bring these frames into production was pretty amazing at the time…

    Early Bontrager Race Lite

With seat collar and anti chain suck mechanism comes to 1,768 kg. It’s pretty impressive to say the least.

If you have the chance to weight the frame only do let us know of the results. I have heard that are among the lightest steel frames!

    RIP David Wrath-Sharman

Very nice interview! Thanks for uploading. Hope new frame builders will follow his work ethic and approach to design.

    Early Bontrager Race Lite

Synching on for the updates too... It seems to be very lightly ridden so a very nice find. Also, it's cool to start with a bike and let it somehow take its own direction from the parts you have available and ideas you have seen on line or around.

Seatpost slipping down no matter what

It's a FAT TUBE seat post and the one that came with the bike when it was sold in 1991. In fact, it's a very interesting seat post in that its interior is not hollow but has a cross that goes throughout its length to reinforce it. I am not describing it too well. Will take a picture and you will...

Looking for Stay Tuff chain stay protector

Could try that too! From what it looks, most NOS have been sold by a member here. Only reproductions are now a possibility. Might be wrong but we will soon find out.

Best of the pre V Brake Cantis... a thread that may of been done to to death

Having seen Suntour XC PRO mentioned a few times, I would also like to vouch for their reliability. They are not super easy to configure correctly, that's true (I think I counted 3 or 4 different type of sizes of keys needed), but are very sturdy cantis. In fact, I have noticed that in certain...

Seatpost slipping down no matter what

Thanks for the ideas guys! So far, what I have managed to do and seems to be working is to simply replace the QR with an allen screw. This keeps the seatpost in place. Nevertheless, quite a few ideas in this thread of what to do in cases where nothing seems to work. I quite liked the idea of...

Patina or pati - nah 🤔

Hard call and also a matter of personal taste. If you do ride this bike a lot and it's a keeper then a paint job wouldn't be that bad of an idea to my books.
