Well kind of ….

So following on from this thread

https://www.retrobike.co.uk/threads/nos-gt-zaskar.431005/
I went to have a look at it. Turned out it was 2 roads away from where I grew up and my parents live so thought it wouldn’t hurt to take a peek.

Anyway I wouldn’t describe it as NOS as it does have some marks from storage and has been pedalled around the local bike shop car park in 1997 but it’s as close as I’ve ever seen to a brand new Zaskar.

The seller of the bike actually knows lots of people I know as he worked at my work prior to me starting in 2004 and I totally believe his story why it was never ridden.

Plan is to clean it up as it’s really dirty and dusty , swap that stem back to a Kore , and then store it safely.

Im unsure whether to keep all the reflectors / fork disc etc or not so open to thoughts?

One highlight is that it’s got 217 sup rims on GT Hadley hubs (proper ones) which are so cool.

Impressed! Check out the stem rise on that beast.
Wheels sound ace, forks look sweet, frame seems tidy. Jammy ain't the word.
Same rd as your parents, from a guy who used to work where you now do. Obviously meant to be then.

Yeh it’s very clean but does have a few marks from storage. It wouldn’t be my choice of colour but it’s certainly a rare find.

Sounds like it was meant to be.
Its lovely that & I am so glad its ended up with someone who will truly appreciate it.
No shortage of them but its getting very rare to find non abused examples let alone in this sort of condition.

So spent a good 5 hours stripping and cleaning it up. He had used some kind of protection oil such as ACF50 or wax oil all over which had dirt/dust stuck to it. Some mild degreaser and a tooth brush and it’s obvious it’s never been ridden.

Just need to source a Kore lite stem , and a GT Seat clamp which are correct next.

Now with correct bar ends/stem

Just need a GT QR for Seatpost and it’s done
