I've been offered this totally original Claud Butler Virago.
The frame is a little large for me, but it would make a nice, cheap runnabout that I won't be afraid to leave locked up. The frame is dirty, but actually in very good condition with very few chips or scratches. I doubt the bike has done more than 100 miles in it's entire life.
The components are all low end Shimano, but it all works and there's little wear on the drive train. Having turned the barrel adjuster on the rear mech, the SIS gear change is sweet as a nut. The brakes will need some attention, there's plenty of stopping power, but they squeel terribly. The brake and gear cables also look a bit tatty, so I would probably replace them.
My friend wants the space in his garage and wants £40.00, should I go for it?
Mmmmmm, banana!
Combined brake and gear shifter.
Squeeeeeeel!
Steel chaingrings have plenty of life left in them.
Nothing special, but shifts are surprisingly quick and precise.
TIG welded frame with Cro-Mo main tubes, but it's no lightweight.
