Knees!

I've had trouble with my knee's in the past, present and most likely future. I've particularly suffered with "Runners Knee", which isn't an exclusive condition amongst runners. Although that said, running is a sure way to aggravate my knees rather rapidly. Much prefer cycling.

I've found by far the most effective thing is to carry out a regular and disciplined stretching regime, focusing on a really good ITB (Iliotibial band) stretching, which basically runs from the outer edge of your hips to the kneecap.

See a physio or qualified sports masseur or at least look online for a diagnoses and some proper focused stretching techniques.

Thanks guys, some great tips and advice. Pretty sure it is cartilage from the descriptions online and here. I think I might consult a Physio and get them to teach me some good stretches. I must confess I've never done enough. :)

Sports physios are really good in my experience. I did an overload injury to one five years ago offroading with No1 son in the trailer.

It cost £360 for all the treatments, but that's cheap compared to a new bike and I find it hard to put a price on still being able to ride! After all the exercises and advice I've never had it occur again...and now I'm in my 40's, so it's not as if I heal fast any more!
