Magura Sleeve Question

What am I missing here? The sleeve seems too short to wrap the brake even though the mounts when closed on their own squeeze the sleeve closed. Obviously this size differential means they’re not fitting in the mounts. I’m tempted to try to clamp it with the bolt and see if it squeezes up, but the gap seems big and I thought I’d check!

That looks about right, the sleeve doesn't need to wrap right around, you'd want a reasonable gap to make sure they'll clamp properly.

Were those clamps painted originally? Fairly sure the ones on mine are black.

it's fine like that - when the cylinder is in the two halves of the clamp, they don't close up as tightly as they do without it. The black plastic ring doesn't need to completely encircle the cylinder

Re:

So just clamp the bolt down and squeeze it all up?

They were. Will repaint I think but just test fitting. They were in a horrible state when I bought them...

Yup, just squeeze 'em, they'll be fine.

They don't even need to be that tight, I managed to snap a few of the supplied alloy bolts when I fitted mine the first time.

Re:

I’ve sorted the brake paint but not the mounts. I’m missing a set of mount and I also just bent a mount removing an elbow, so might just get replacements all round

They look really good, what did you paint them with? I need to sort mine at some point, they could do with their 24 year service now.

Fronts are on, thanks for your help...

The first time I road with maguras, back in 1996, I managed to throw myself over the handlebars when I thought I'd test them. This was prior to v-brakes, so I wasn't used to brakes that actually worked.
