Pace RC-30... something's missing?

Hey all,

I need a helping hand, acquired my first set of RC-30s since lusting after them in the nineties, but i fear i must be missing something. Looks like there could be a slim collar between the steerer and the crown?

Any of you experts have a photo of what i need to complete it, or even better the actual part you want to get rid of!

Here's a photo of how it currently stands, see what you think chaps, all advice gratefully received.

Boothy.

You have a 1 1/8th crown and a 1" steerer (or a 1 1/4th crown and a 1" steerer)

For the former at least, Pace made a shim to adapt between the sizes, try Justbackdated. I have one in my parts box but to be honest I will find a use for it at some point (with my pace addiction!) so would rather not get rid of it.

Bah, ruddy hell. I was hoping it was a quick fix. Best i get the tape measure out and figure it out.

Thanks a million, I'll knock on Justbackdated's door.

Nice one,

Also - if I'm seeing it correctly - the circular collar you have shown below the fork crown should actually sit above the fork crown, in the same orientation as shown... You then mount the lower crown race over it.

What size steerer do you require, if its a 1" ...like I suspect you have then you need a shim to allow it to fit the crown. If it is 1 1/8th you require...then you need a new steerer.

I am guessing the race collar (mentioned in above post) is a good fit for the steerer you currently have. If you go for the 1 1/8th" steerer option you will need a new one of these collars to fit it.

If you turn out to need a 1" steerer and end up going for a pace 1 1/8th to 1" shim, then you wont need a collar at all as the shim has that part built in.

Your 1"race collar would only be of use with a 1" crown and a 1" steerer.

Clear as mud?

Legendary advice ta folks,

So that's why there seems to be a tide mark from a collar on the top of the crown!

I'm going to need a1 1/8 steerer, so fingers crossed it will all fall into place once I source that.

Nice one team.

Pretty sure that the only crowns that had the bulge were 1 1/4"

The RC35 crown came in 1", 1 1/8" and 1 1/4" steerer socket sizes. From the pic I am guessing that the steerer shown is 1 1/8"? That would mean the crown is a 1 1/4" and you will need a 1 1/4" to 1 1/8" reducer shim, which, as Jerky says has an upstand for the crown race of the headset to fit on so the crown race collar is redundant in this case. :D
