...and so my first build continues...please don't be TOO harsh as I am aware that it isn't exactly original/period correct  ....so far I have '95 16" purple ano frame,'98 Pace Rc36 forks,Kore Lite stem, bars and seatpost....and will probably go for an XT M737 crankset.....

To those in the know here that probably reads like total heresy....but it was this forum that inspired me into action so you've only got yourselves to blame :D (...that's my story and I'm sticking to it :D )

Anyhow...at the risk of making everyone laugh some more....What would be a suitable rear mech in keeping with the vague timespan I've adopted for the bike ?

I recently put my '96 Zaskar back to original spec (ish :))

XT M739 Groupset apart from the front mech which is a M737 cos I simply couldn't find a 739 one in good enough condition. :) (still looking though )

I have m739 on my Zaskar .... My fav groupset 8)

Great ! I seem to be on the right track then :) ....have already got M739 front mech and shifters....

So if I went with an M737 crank ( I really like its looks) would I be totally ruining the setup ?

Looking forward to see pictures of your purple zaskar mate. Have got 94 in turquoise ano, most of parts are 737. Would be good to swap Pace on to some american forks, Pace just doesn't look good with GT. Judy could be the best but it's my opinion only and your build.

Thanks for that.....I may try and post some pics as I go.....and thanks for giving me leeway re the forks.....thought about that one for a while....but then after speaking to Tim English and realising that they/he could keep my Pace forks going pretty much forever I decided to go with PACE.....got a yellow Kore Lite stem though to make up for the lack of yellow :)

I'm also looking forward to the pics, sounds just like the one i bought (as a bare frame) new in 94, wanted a ball burnished one but the only 16" one available at the time without a long wait was a Purple one, would you believe i tried to strip the anodizing off with oven cleaner  (but failed), would be shot for doing that to a mint anodized Zaskar nowadays.

Don't get me wrong, PACE are nice well build forks and better looking than anything else (maybe apart easton manitou forks) as long as they have right travel (no more than 80mm) it is fine.

Dunno about shot  .....might make a few people cry though :) ....don't get too excited about photos though 'cause I bought the frame complete with 15 years worth of cable rub, chain suck etc.....not to mention the badly applied stickers which are on my list of things to eventually take care of....but I am happy in that it is dent and ding free and am just as happy to be on this forum getting hints and help :D
