    Sunn Xircuit Plus 998

Re: Buy my bike? Hi all, It is time to part ways with the Sunn. If I was to sell her (definitely a girl), would anyone be interested? JB

Help me decide: Sunn vs slightly newer Sunn

As the owner of a 1998 Xircuit, I may be biased, but I think the older bike is the winner. That era of Sunn was the era of tidy, well-built steel frames. Just bear in mind that if you ever get the seat knicked it will be a pain to find a new seat post that fits as they are a size that doesn't...

Kona Kapu 1994 - pastures new

Re: Kona Kapu 1994 - epic unicorn Wow, great story. Thanks for sharing. It's dangerous though... I'm now tempted to see if I can find a 1998 Sunn road bike to go with my mountain bike.

    Great big Singlespeed thread!

Not enough of the chain wrapping round the rear cog due to a too-long chain and an over zealous chain tensioner. I only had 5 or 6 teeth in the chain at any one time, so it kept slipping whenever I pedalled hard. Three links out and problem solved, thanks to the sensible heads on this site. I...

    Sunn Xircuit Plus 998

After a couple of evenings completely stripping and cleaning the bike, including some rust removal (aluminium foil, what a revelation!), then putting on the new cog, ring and chain, the bike is sorted. At least, the back end is. I still need to do something about the front, but that can wait...

    Jolting, clunking single speed problems...

I'm pleased to report that taking a couple of links out has. Sorted it completely. Cheers! Even when hammering up hill there was no slipping. I reckon my legs will give way before the chain does. Thanks for the advice. I probably would have tried taking the freehub apart before thinking of...

    Great big Singlespeed thread!

Ignore my previous post. I reckon I've got it sorted. Ta.

    Jolting, clunking single speed problems...

Yep, sorry for not being clear, I meant once per pedal per revolution, which would mean twice per revolution with two pedals, if you get what I mean?

    Jolting, clunking single speed problems...

Hi all, Thanks for the advice. I'm going to shorten the chain tonight as I reckon that is it. I'm going to stick with 36:18 as that is what I have, but may go bigger further down the line. I originally thought stiff link, but they're all nice and loose and it happens with each pedal...

    Jolting, clunking single speed problems...

Cheers Feetabix, I'm going to try that this evening. With an 18 tooth cog I've probably got no more than six teeth engaged at the moment, which isn't a lot. Shortening the chain is definitely cheaper and easier than dismantling the hub and as it isn't going to do any harm I might as well give...

    Jolting, clunking single speed problems...

Hi all, I posted this in the SS thread, but then realised I probably had a better chance of getting my query answered here, so apologies for the duplication... I have just set my bike up SS. I've got a new chainring, a new cog and spacers on the back, a new chain, and a spring mounted tensioner...

    Great big Singlespeed thread!

OK folks, I've got a question... I have just set my bike up SS. I've got a new chainring, a new cog and spacers on the back, a new chain, and a spring mounted tensioner (one that pushes clockwise, not anti-clockwise). When I push down hard on the pedals (starting from stationary, climbing...

    Great big Singlespeed thread!

I've just ordered the bits to convert my Sunn Xircuit Plus 998 to SS. This thread has been interesting reading, so cheers everyone!

    Sunn Xircuit Plus 998

Right, I've bitten the bullet and decided to ditch the gears. The kit is on order from Charlie the Bikemonger in Dorset and with any luck I might get it before the weekend. I ride to get to work and to cross train for long distance running, so anything that provides a little extra leg-strength...
