Hi....from Scotland

Yardbent

Retro Guru
well, South Lanarkshire..

started cycling with the Hertfordshire CC in the ''cough'' mid 50s [ year not age..]
still got some B&W photos of my 25mile TimeTrials on a steel Raleigh which weighed a ton...
moved to Canada...... and stopped cycling

retired, I decided to start again
low key though - i live on a farm - and thought it would be a nice way to enjoy the country lanes to the village whilst shopping, and so bought a hybrid Trek FX 7.2 some time ago

BUT the FX is getting a bit heavy [heavier] as i added a rack and 2x15L panniers for groceries
so interested in a more sporty road bike for the summer days

and - harking back to my yoof - I began to search for a Raleigh again

found your Forum - and decided to join for the wealth of knowledge and the chat

regards..john

Hi Yardbent! Is that you in the profile pic?

You can age that photo by the lack of potholes in the road... ah, good times!

Have you got the Raleigh yet, or is this still a dream? Everyone in the old days rode Raleighs, but my old warhorse collapsed under me whilst traversing a busy stream, so my memories are less rosy!

Welcome, from another (relative) site noob

Hi Don

yep me - the photo is inscribed ''almost dead on the Southend 25''
but too small in the avatar - I'll pop up some B&W later

i'm actually moving across to the idea of finding an older Peugeot

my prob living up here, is i have to consider an extra £25 shipping on every bike i fancy from down south.....

B&W shots always appreciated! From your avatar shot it looks like you used to sport a beret whilst in the saddle... which maybe explains the Pug choice??

They have bikes in Scotland, no? Shame you're not closer - you could have my old Peugeot for the price of a half-decent beret!

Hope you get the bike you want... but come on here too much and you'll never be satisfied with just one!

Welcome John, good to see another Scot on the forum and you live in a great area for cycling

Welcome :)

I did 25's and the like about about 20 years after you. How about some classic older steel.......Mercian et al?

Welcome to RB!

I noted your mention of the extra £25 for delivery - I would refuse to pay that. Minor discussion here -

viewtopic.php?f=8&t=290872

I am in Norn Iron and people try to over-charge for delivery when it is the same RM here as in mainland UK. It seems a popular ebay ploy.

Anyway, enough moaning - welcome to the great world of RetroBikes (be warned of the addiction!)

Re:

Welcome to Retrobike!
Peugeots are a nice reasonably priced choice.
I am Spanish but was at the Uni in Scotland back in 1997, of course with my bike. Lots of nice small roads around Dundee, south trough Fife or north to the Sidlaws.

hi...the bike will come by next day courier
if that's the terms of the sale - there's not a lot of choice

thanks for the welcome
terrible weather in SW Scotland ... kept up all last night with the barn doors banging in the gales
[live on a farm] - the kitchen wont get above 8deg ... so i live in the study ...
