Holdsworth Mistral build

Thanks! :)

I actually thought about doing it in team colours, but then I didn't really like those colors and felt a bit like cheating :)

The U did strike me as a bit odd indeed as I haven't yet seen Holdsworth frame numbers with a letter in front (so I thought people were simply not quoting it).

It is definitely early '80s (83 probably as you said). But will wait for you to come back to me on that (appreciated).

I also thought the BB woud be too short :( I do have another one (the one that came with the group parts from Mr Gumpy), so I'll probably resort to use that after a good cleaning.

The new parts that arrived are all shiny and polished, I'll have to do the same to the other parts before fitting them! Ugh!

Re:

I do like the team colours alot and it was a colour option for all bikes. It was something I always wanted and I was happy to do my Super Mistral as it was one of the top models at the time and i have pictures of team riders riding one in team colours so I justified it to myself!! Problem is a lot of people are getting there bicycles done in that colour (sure you saw a few at Mario's) :D - My Professional is white so maybe one day I will swap them round.

Yes Mario did have a few hanging, his own as well (which he has sold on ebay.)
Didn't know you could have any frame with that color option, makes it less of a cheating then :)

White is nice, Italian pearl white is much better still :)

Shoot,

only pair of Shimano Golden Arrow hubs are in the US :(

Pretty cheap 27" wheelset (£88) [Shimano Araya rims), but expensive postage (£55!!) damn :(

I've been offered a cheap Golden Arrow wheelset but tubular.

What so you guys reckon ?

There's who swears by them and who doesn't.
I'm afraid of even asking :)

So guys, first 'build up' (i.e. on wheels :) ), but still naked, picture:

Unfortunately I was not able to slide the GB stem into the GB handlebar, it wouldn't go past the first curve whilst it slid very easily on the one you see in the picture (which is much nicely polished, but has no name, oh well)

I was able to easily stuck the headset races into the headtube, not so much the one on the fork crown. Sheldon recommends to continue building it up and have a quick bumpy ride to have it snap in place and then re-tighten everything.

Hopefully, though, Jonathan at the Richimong LCC workshops has the tool so I don't have to.

Feedback?

Yes, I just bought it! Looks lovely, just doing some online research to see if it is actually a Super Mistral as stated. Can't find anything which goes against that theory.

Feel free to post pictures.
The one I saw hanging looked like a proper Super Mistral (from the etched seat stays) and Mario didn't look like a guy who'd cheat.

This one: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Holdsworth-53 ... &rt=nc

I'm sure it is: I was only curious as some of the Super Mistrals I've seen have straighter forks. These have quite a curve. However I think it may have been the Team Professional which had straighter forks and also the Super Mistral wasn't originally sold in the team colours as the Professional was. So maybe that's where the confusion is.

Not bad if you think that someone just paid £675 to have a similar job (modernisation braze-on too) from Mercian!!

This is the picture they sent me when I inquired regarding having my frame painted:

Didn't know the Super Mistral had 130mm rear spacing compared to the 126 of my Mistral
