How much is this orange worth?

Hi guys, not been on here for a long time...

I recently aquired this Orange that I'm pretty sure is the iconic "P7".

It comes with all original seatpost, post, stem and bars and is a surprisingly light bike.

Has full shimano gearset including crankset, front and rear derallieurs, cassette.

However it doesn't come without its faults. The frame has some minor surface rust but no cracks or dents. Needs a new rear brake caliper and rear gear cable. It's still an absolute beast and has put to shame many road riding lycra riders at the lights ;).

I'll listen to good offers but I won't let it go for peanuts as it will only go up in value.

Harry

Re:

Hi chap

You want to ask in the correct part of the forum:

viewforum.php?f=78

When you do want to sell, firm price in the for sale section if you are putting up an advert. Lots of pics will help.

Seems to need a lot of work, and condition doesn't look that great to be honest, but best of luck. You should find a search on here or eBay will help show what the price should be.

Good luck

It says C16.

It's not worth a lot, parts are missing or very poor replacements. Groupset is low end and all the rust on everything including the wheels would mean either a 10 or 20 quid pub style bike or about the same if somebody wanted the frame.

Hopefully the mods will move this to the correct are reading the above.

and no it's not going to go up in value.

[ moved ]

As others have said, it's a C-16 which is a nice mid-range bike, but it's in poor condition with many downgraded parts. The frame would be the important bit, but it does appear to be suffering from a significant amount of rust.

As to a valuation, I'd suggest maybe £30 - £40 as it is. Most of the parts would likely need replacing so it may be worth just selling the frame, in which case around £30 might also be about right. Split it and you might rake in another £20 or £30.

If the rust isn't looked at then it'll only get worse and it won't get any more valuable if you hang on to it.

Sorry but you won't ever be able to retire on the proceeds...

Re:

"Investments can go up as well down" as they say...

Iconic C16 with F7 forks, really in need of a lot of TLC. A lot of visible rust, particularly looking at the stem, headset, head tube would be a cause concern about the state of the rest of things inside the frame, forks and major parts. Hopefully, it's mostly superficial rust. Think for anyone, this bike would require a lot of restoration. They'd probably want to spend a princely sum on replacing most components, after an industrial stripping and powder coating.

Not one to pin your retirement hopes on. Good luck though.

Thanks for that guys, never though I would get such a speedy and detailed response.

The F7 Forks really confused me and I thought it said "P7". As the frame decals are worn and unreadable I just assumed it was a P7. By the sounds (and looks) of things I think I'm going to split it and sell for parts.

I also have a real nice Brian Rourke 653 racer with full campag groupset in the pipe works so watch this space.

Thanks
Harry

Re:

The P7 frame came out around 1993-ish, along with the F7 forks (great forks!). The P7 was a development on from the Prestige. The C16R came out around 1995-ish and was a refinement of the old Clockwork. The C16R was available with the F7 forks. Have some F7s on an old Clockwork. I do understand the mix about the decals, as the F7 could easily look like P7. Your C16R looks like a 1996 model.

If you've seen the C16R thread here on RB – those are nice bikes. I'd urge you to keep the frame, forks, stem and seat post all together. Don't break them up – just get them restored/refurbished, then fit new components around them. Before I had my Clockwork stripped and powder coated 3 years back, it looked in a much worse rusty state than yours. When the frame comes back from being stripped and powder coated, it looks like a brand new frame, even inside the tubes.

The Brian Rourke 653 racer sounds/looks good.
