How to I make my seat tube circular?

Hi there,

I recently bought an older frame and found that the seat tube hole (where the seat post is supposed to slide into) is not exactly circular. It has become flatted at the sides where the seat stays are attached.

It is 1980's condor frame with lugged tubes. The seller says the seat post it takes should be 27.2mm but I've tried one and it's far too tight. My LBS tried a 27.0 mm seat post and that was better but still not fantastic.

Is there any way to make the seat tube more circular or am I just going to have to take it on the chin and use a 27.0 or even a 26.8 mm seat post?

Many thanks in advance!

Re:

Yes take it to a proper old school bike shop or a local frame builder and get the tube reamed out.

Depends on how flat as yes it can be reamed but may need some heat for the tube to be malleable to be rounded by the insertion of a properly sized steel bung to bring the roundness back...
