Took a workmate for a ride around "follow the dog" and "the monkey trail" at Cannock Chase today.

The guy is 55, only took up cycling about 18 months ago and had never ridden offroad apart from the canal towpaths until today. To my surprise he absolutely loved it!

Don't think I'll be making a retro-biker out of him though, he rode his wife's modern hardtail which was very forgiving when he got the line wrong occasionally. I rode my '97 Kona Cindercone which also has front suspension, I'm not man enough to ride a full rigid around there .

16 miles, around 2,300 ft of climbing, and by the time we finished 32 degrees C
