Period correct shifting options

I’m building a KHS Montana Team which ran XTR and have sourced Magura HS33 brakes as I want to ride it, and cantilevers look better than they perform.

Can only think of XT thumbies for shifting but am I right in thinking they were all 7s? If so, what 8s XTR compatible shifter options am I forgetting that don’t integrate brake levers?

If you can find them, Shimano ST-M008 are XT , 8spd and very discrete looking

Nothing wrong with cantis :)

You can get mounts for the shifter pods if you want to run xtr shifters, or xtr m950 has separate shifters as do a few of the xt range. Also thumbies have an extra click so you could run them.

Secret click?

Shimano thumbies have always had an extra bit of indexing that almost makes for that magic 7th or 8th shift

The original Deore MT-60 six speed shifters can do 7spd quite well along with their XT brothers

Same for the Deore MT-62 Deore II/ DX model and the XT version, they are 7spd but can go 8

I've been running XT thumbies for decades on an 8spd cassette using that extra 'click' - its never been absolutely perfect but it has not been too much of a pain.

interesting, that's definitely an option then.

Don't suppose there are any aftermarket bands to attached just the M900 shifter pods to the bar without the partner brake levers?
