You want to know what Gove is like, speak to a teacher, any teacher, England, Scotland, Wales it doesn't matter, just ask them what they think of him...... and stand back, cos you just seriously lit the blue touch paper.

He may be, but he's taken BoJo out of the equation, and that can only be a good thing

Well true enough, and there is always the possibility that this is Dave and George's little payback for Boris winning the campaign he was supposed to lose.

Re:

So,

The one who generally leant towards remain, is the front runner.
The one who campaigned rigorously to leave, and has said on may occasions that he definitely doesn't want the job, does.
And the former front runner who really campaigned furiously to leave, isn't interested now.

And we thought the Labour party had problems!

Tory leadership elections are always the same. Labour are in a worse position for three reasons, 1. they're in opposition, 2. they have a more fundamental split in their party and 3. neither (or none) of their leadership options are in the least suitable for PM.

They should be tanking the Tories right now, but they're too busy embarrassing themselves. Say what you like about Gove, but he went for it. Corbyn apparently wants out but 'isn't allowed', and Eagle has indecision written all over her, as seen today. Not exactly what you want as a leader (or PM).

Re:

Andrea Leadsom

Leadsom studied Political Science at Warwick University, then became one of the few women on a trading floor in the City as a trainee trading metals. She then moved to BZW, the investment banking arm of Barclays. In 1993, she married Ben, a businessman, and after a rapid rise through the ranks, she became the youngest director of Barclays at the remarkable age of 32, when she was appointed head of UK banking.

Nuff said. Rather she had studied real Sciences but she's got some serious brains. May is too grey....she has the same complexion as John Major... too cadaver like :x Gove took on the lefty Teachers unions who are battling to lower standards in education for their own benefit. Fact is we are far too low in the World academic league table. Not saying we need to be automatons like the S Koreans or Japanese but it IS important that things improve. Back in my day we were forced to do Ox and Camb board exams and yoof would eat those papers today. It's all watered down so they all get As. It's a frikin joke !

Re:

What the hell has complexion got to do with it? May is a strong character, goodness me we need those.

Gove took on the teachers. It didn't go well!

As for the candidate you mention, she has had less time for sh-t to stick to her, than all except maybe Crabb. Hmmm, Crabb and Sturgeon. Make your own jokes!

Has to be May IMO. But it's down to members, then MPs, so who knows how it will go, given the last week!

I was being a bit facetious but I just find she's a bit too lacking in personality, which she admits herself. Strong, to take on the Police...no question about it. If she's selected I'm not too worried, hopefully she is a pair of safe hands. I just prefer Andrea.

I liked what Gove did for education but again it depends on which side of the political Spectrum you favour. To the Union Left, he's Satan incarnate, when all he was trying to do was raise standards, which this country badly needs. Don't like his recent tactics though ! I totally agree it's a lot more work and stress for teachers and they should be rewarded far more and the weaklings removed. My mother was a successful maths and science teacher and it was bloody hard work in those days too. I'm in favour of selective education btw but that's another contentious issue, the 11+ etc

Id like Cameron back tbh and Ozy out. We need a strong negotiator for PM. I think we could be entering a period of Girl Power politics. Merkel, May, Clinton etc

If Women ruled the World...they may well be as close as ever soon...hope it's for the best.

Gove made a mess of education - he made no improvements and postured to meet his own ends. The system is in more of a mess now than it has ever been, and despite the noises that standards will be/are being raised, this years 'national average standard' will be lower than previous years.

Gove's system was to destabilise the profession to allow for systematic privatisation, and he didn't even manage to get that right. Still, at least he is in the running for the top job- that's what he wanted after all.
